Introducing Brizel Handcrafts Silk Tapestry Boxes

Introduction to Brizel's Silk Tapestry Boxes
... Spring 2010 rebirth ...

Happiness Within

It continues to be an eventful Spring for me ! Amidst all the orderly chaos of setting up complimentary businesses on ArtFire; reducing & cleaning up the ones on Etsy; networking about online business challenges & making new friends through that arduous process; attempting to keep up with the weeds... getting the orchards ready... planting food crops in the garden; hanging out with the animals & making sure we are all okay... I have also had a need to craft and express my creative energy !

I've been making little Silk Tapestry Boxes for a number of years now... After designing the Silk Tapestry Hip Pouches in 2005... I wanted to create something different yet in line with my spiritual outlook and lifestyle. In partnership with the divine silk sari yarns... conceiving spiritual based products came naturally to me. It was only fitting that I began to make precious special occasion boxes that could sit on altars or in a sacred place.

Nimue's Fur Keeper

Nearing the end of this last winter, my canine daughter, Nimue passed away. I wanted to make a very special Silk Tapestry Box that would become a fur keeper memory box. I selected two different colored yarns that would together express her fur coloring. The perfect right button came along and with her fur residing in it, the box was complete.

Nimue's Fur Keeper is the first double yarn silk tapestry box that I have made and the creative process urged me to rebirth and expand my Silk Tapestry Box product line.

About Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes
Mauve Rose

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are handcrafted one-of-a-kind round boxes with lids that are crocheted with divine multicolored silk sari or banana silk yarns and adorned with a lovely pictorial button or bead.

Violet Wreath

These gorgeous gentle containers make exquisite gift boxes and are perfect for storing something precious !

Satin Rose

Inspired originally by ancient rug bags, Brizel Silk Tapestry is a technique that was developed to create woven rug-like thickness.

Edelweiss

Since I work in spiral formation, I adapted upon crochet...

Stellar Flower

... each thick silk yarn loop must be pulled tightly before the next one can be made...

Bee Nectar

... making the creation of a Brizel Silk Tapestry piece both a conscientious & effortful act.

Butterfly Bliss

The silk sari yarns that are used to make these beautiful boxes are made from disgarded silk garment factory loom warps.

House Mouse

A multitude of silk threads are reclaimed by Nepalese and Himalayan craftswomen and then hand spun into vibrant multicolored yarns, or white yarns which are then dyed into single colors.

Guardian Dog

Some of Brizel’s Silk Tapestry Boxes are made with banana silk... a soft silk like yarn made from banana fibers... it too is hand dyed into solid or variegated colors.

Matisse the Cat

The embellishments for Brizel’s Silk Tapestry Boxes feature images from the natural world... friends from the animal kingdom...

Hungry Hare

... or blooms from the garden, with many of the florals in a shade of purple and violet symbolizing the divine realm and/or Chakra seven.

Honey Bee

When I first created these silk boxes, I used to call them little God/dess boxes.

Lucky Wolf

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are ideal for sacred storage...

They make charming prayer boxes... altar boxes...

Mediterranean Lizard

... memory boxes... wishing boxes... dream boxes...

animal totem boxes... fur keepers... tooth holders...

Tundra Elk

... treasure troves... pendulum chargers... rune guardians... jewelry keepers...

and ultimately they are an attractive trinket and keepsake box.

Golden Dragonfly

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are bright & multicolored... a rich palette of color reminding us to celebrate & embrace a positive, joyful, life affirming experience !

  3. Your boxes are beautiful, Nicole. So glad that Nimue has inspired you to create all these lovely things. My favourite has to be the hungry hare one - so cute ;-)

  4. I love love love these, Nicole! They are so perfect in color and decoration, and they definitely have a spiritual vibe to them as well. And what a great idea for treasuring Nimue's hair!

Being the lizard girl that I am (with my three tattoos), I love the lizard box the best.

  5. Brizel, when I entered your site and saw your work I felt a tingling that brought tears to my eyes. There was such a strong connection and I can see the source of your emotionally sensitive items. I've not experienced this before on any site and with few people. After reading some of your history, I can only applaud the fact that you are following your dream and living a life in harmony with nature and your Karmic destiny.
