Treasury Thanks... The Dog House

Its always a thrill to be included in a treasury collection but doubly so when someone from my team puts one together.

Its not the first time thedoghouse has been kind enough to do so with one of my items... Jane is a member of Team EFA and I am so happy to be sharing her treasury and a little about her store here on my blog !

PEACE
The treasury is in the new Treasury East format- allowing a larger amount of products to be displayed. Jane choose one of my Outrageous Olive tagua nut necklaces. My collection of tagua nut jewelry will eventually be listed into my new Artfire Brizel Handcrafts store. In the meantime, there are a few samples to be found in the Brizel4TheAnimal Etsy store.

And now a little about Jane from thedoghouse...

"I live in Scotland's capital city with my fiancé & two rescue greyhounds. When I'm not getting creative with ink & screens, I operate my own dog walking business, spending my days outdoors in the beautiful Scottish countryside in the company of my favourite animals !"

"My greyhounds are the inspiration behind the products... I think their sleek lines & graceful (& at times not so graceful!) poses make striking prints. My designs... are screenprinted by hand onto ethically sourced clothing, homeware & accessories by me. "

Jane's designs are fabulous and I love the color combinations she comes up with... they are fun, refreshing and simply perfect for the greyhound enthusiast and dog lover. thedoghouse donates a portion of profits to her local greyhound rehoming charity, called Gracehounds.

Here are some of my favorites:

Paw print cotton pet treats pouch

Relax greyhound cotton t-shirt

Born to Run cotton tote bag

Opt to Adopt cotton cushion cover

Doggy style boxer briefs

Keep up the good work and thanks again for the feature !

Introducing Brizel Handcrafts Silk Tapestry Boxes

Introduction to Brizel's Silk Tapestry Boxes
... Spring 2010 rebirth ...

Happiness Within

It continues to be an eventful Spring for me ! Amidst all the orderly chaos of setting up complimentary businesses on ArtFire; reducing & cleaning up the ones on Etsy; networking about online business challenges & making new friends through that arduous process; attempting to keep up with the weeds... getting the orchards ready... planting food crops in the garden; hanging out with the animals & making sure we are all okay... I have also had a need to craft and express my creative energy !

I've been making little Silk Tapestry Boxes for a number of years now... After designing the Silk Tapestry Hip Pouches in 2005... I wanted to create something different yet in line with my spiritual outlook and lifestyle. In partnership with the divine silk sari yarns... conceiving spiritual based products came naturally to me. It was only fitting that I began to make precious special occasion boxes that could sit on altars or in a sacred place.

Nimue's Fur Keeper

Nearing the end of this last winter, my canine daughter, Nimue passed away. I wanted to make a very special Silk Tapestry Box that would become a fur keeper memory box. I selected two different colored yarns that would together express her fur coloring. The perfect right button came along and with her fur residing in it, the box was complete.

Nimue's Fur Keeper is the first double yarn silk tapestry box that I have made and the creative process urged me to rebirth and expand my Silk Tapestry Box product line.

Flower Swirl

About Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes
Mauve Rose

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are handcrafted one-of-a-kind round boxes with lids that are crocheted with divine multicolored silk sari or banana silk yarns and adorned with a lovely pictorial button or bead.

Violet Wreath

These gorgeous gentle containers make exquisite gift boxes and are perfect for storing something precious !

Satin Rose

Inspired originally by ancient rug bags, Brizel Silk Tapestry is a technique that was developed to create woven rug-like thickness.

Edelweiss

Since I work in spiral formation, I adapted upon crochet...

Stellar Flower

... each thick silk yarn loop must be pulled tightly before the next one can be made...

Bee Nectar

... making the creation of a Brizel Silk Tapestry piece both a conscientious & effortful act.

Butterfly Bliss

The silk sari yarns that are used to make these beautiful boxes are made from disgarded silk garment factory loom warps.

House Mouse

A multitude of silk threads are reclaimed by Nepalese and Himalayan craftswomen and then hand spun into vibrant multicolored yarns, or white yarns which are then dyed into single colors.

Guardian Dog

Some of Brizel’s Silk Tapestry Boxes are made with banana silk... a soft silk like yarn made from banana fibers... it too is hand dyed into solid or variegated colors.

Matisse the Cat

The embellishments for Brizel’s Silk Tapestry Boxes feature images from the natural world... friends from the animal kingdom...

Hungry Hare

... or blooms from the garden, with many of the florals in a shade of purple and violet symbolizing the divine realm and/or Chakra seven.

Honey Bee

When I first created these silk boxes, I used to call them little God/dess boxes.

Lucky Wolf

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are ideal for sacred storage...

They make charming prayer boxes... altar boxes...

Mediterranean Lizard

... memory boxes... wishing boxes... dream boxes...

animal totem boxes... fur keepers... tooth holders...

Tundra Elk

... treasure troves... pendulum chargers... rune guardians... jewelry keepers...

and ultimately they are an attractive trinket and keepsake box.

Golden Dragonfly

Brizel Silk Tapestry Boxes are bright & multicolored... a rich palette of color reminding us to celebrate & embrace a positive, joyful, life affirming experience !

Product Update: Brizel Handcrafts CUSTOM Silk Tapestry Boxes

Product Update:
Custom Silk Tapestry Boxes

The Wolf Pack
Misty Wolf

Last week, as I was happily making Silk Tapestry Boxes, I was contacted by an Etsy client regarding a custom Silk Tapestry Box creation. She had seen 'Lucky Wolf' and wanted to gift a custom wolf Silk Tapestry Box to a shaman friend of hers.

Her initial color visualization went like this: "I'm wondering if you can come up with a very fine, deep and magical blend or combination suggesting an enchanted, mist-filled forest; with beautiful earth tones, both rich and subtle, and a blue-gray-green accent or thread that picks up on and coordinates with the outer color of the wolf button (this is the mist part of the scheme)."

Initially I pursued two color combos... in honor of the incredible gray mist visualization... the first combo was a multicolored silk sari yarn with heavy greens in it paired up with a gorgeous silver toned gray. Misty Wolf was the culmination of that endevour.

The second combo was with a deep solid green silk sari yarn paired with the same green multicolored silk sari yarn. The result was Forest Wolf.

Forest Wolf

After satisfying my client's custom gift box request... (She choose Misty Wolf) I was so happy that she asked me to make a wolf box for her as well... This time the wish list read: "I'm wondering whether you can do one with predominantly overall grays, midnight blues & blacks (possibly with a very tiny thread of blood red) ?"

Midnight Wolf

I knew exactly what to do with this one... using the same silver gray silk sari yarn as before... I paired it up with the deepest darkest midnight blue silk sari yarn... and then edged the rim of the box and lid with a double red combination... a deep dark burgundy with a variegated rich red.

Midnight Wolf was birthed... the first Brizel Silk Tapestry Box to have a color edging... I was so very pleased with the outcome and best of all, so was my client !

Lightning speed appreciative feedback was posted in my store:

"FABULOUS custom box from a Fabulous Artist & Seller. Nicole is a dream to work with!" (Misty Wolf)

"Another gorgeous custom box made by Nicole: exactly what I was looking for, produced with lightning speed, joy and can-do attitude. Doesn't get any better than this." (Midnight Wolf)

Its so true...
Much gratitude for such a wondrous selling experience !
