Who's got the Bag ?!

I do !

I'm so excited :) I got my custom rubber stamps from Sarah of Ahueofduckeggblue... They came all the way from Greece and are mounted on sustainably harvested olive wood. So beautiful !

These graphics are being used on the packaging for my dried organic apple and pears which will be introduced shortly into the Brizel4TheAnimals shop as treats for critters and their persons too.

Here's what the test bags look like... my friend Laura of PurrfectGifts printed up the Brizel stickers for me and got them cut down to size too.

Don't it all look great ?

On top of it, I'm really pleased with these bags- made from 40% recycled natural kraft paper and lined with a film that is also compostable. impressive, no ?

I dont have it all figured out tho and have some unresolved challenges...

Firstly, the dried fruit is denting/scuffing up that nice crisp window. (oh no)

Second... now that i have the product packaging labeled- how the heck do i ship that out- in a padded envelop or in a box ?

The latter will certainly jack up the cost... but if i ship them out in a padded envelop it's liable to arrive 'smushed'... that will not look good at all and will most certainly breach the sanctity of a sealed package.

As a relevant aside, when I buy treats for the dogs, the company always ship them out in a box... shipping, however, is always 'free' so perhaps I should include shipping in my prices too ?

So... should i put the fruit in a ziplock bag and ship that out with an empty kraft bag to maximize safe arrival... then the client can then drop the goodies in a fresh un-adulterated bag ?

Or... should i just ship it out in the bag and in a small box, either first class or in a priority flat rate box ?

What do you think ?

  1. It looks really great, Nicole! Well done!! I would suggest putting the treats in the ziplock and putting it in the bag, then shipping by box. Alternatively, before you ship by box, perhaps you could test ship to a friend/relative in an envelope with extra bubble wrap padding and see how it arrives? If it's good, you'll save yourself a lot of money, I daresay. Another suggestion, albeit crazy, perhaps you should ship your product pre-cut up, so that it's already in bits and pieces? Won't people be breaking them up anyway to feed their pets, or no? Maybe half the "fun" is having them use their little teeth to full advantage.

    Just some thoughts.

    1. Thanks Hanna :)

The kraft bag does have a lining so i dont really need a ziplock. maybe some food grade grease paper on the inside to protect the window from denting during travel and I may need to do a less stuffed bag as well and then i think it will fit better in a small flat rate box.

I dont think I'd try to ship it out in a padded envelop stuffed as it is. in that scenario i think i would put the dried food in a ziplock and then include the bag for peeps to place the fruit in once it arrives. I'd like to try that out but i think i may need to get some slightly longer padded envelops.

It does take careful consideration - good thing i'm not in an emergency rush. lol. but the critters do await so...

  2. I found a very light weight box which i believe I could use and even fit two packs into it and still make first class rate - wooho !

  3. Nicole, they look awesome! I think Hanna's ideas of the ziplock bag inside the bag and shipping a sample out to someone are great. Maybe that person could send you a photo of how they look upon arrival?

  4. P.S. Ziplock and Saran brand plastic bags are both BPA-free.
